Environmentally-friendly centre completed

The £2.3 million Brune Medical Centre development in Gosport has been officially handed over to Hampshire PCT by Solent Community Solutions (SCS).

The centre, which was completed on time and to budget, was built using wood from sustainable forests for its timber frame construction with heating provided by bio-fuel boilers. Located on Rowner Road it replaces the existing cramped GP premises, providing the community of Gosport with a healthcare facility in modern and vibrant surroundings.

George Anderson, general manager of SCS, said: “Solent Community Solutions is, like many other responsible organisations, extremely aware of the impact of global warming, and in that sense is focused on building sustainable developments, where possible using recycled products and materials.”

Gareth Cruddace, chief executive of Hampshire Primary Care Trust, said: “I am very pleased to see the new medical centre opening, on time and budget. The building is replacing facilities that are not fit for purpose, providing additional services that are much needed in Gosport. This project is the result of a strong partnership between the PCT, local GPs, Gosport Borough Council and our Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT), Solent Community Solutions.”

Bringing together a range of primary healthcare professionals, the development will support and enhance delivery of primary care services within the community and will specifically provide a family based GP practice, NHS dental services, practice nurse training, mental health counselling, chronic disease management, cervical smear screening, immunisation clinics, minor surgery facilities and a community pharmacy.
