Bringing standby generation right up to date

Brian Muirie, Sales director at DTGen, discusses the company’s evolution and expertise in standby power generation, explains some of the ramifications of recent environmental legislation for such plant, and explains why – with the diesel engine market ‘making every effort to introduce cleaner engines’ – the business was ‘eager to take things a step further’, and offer the UK market’s first gas standby generators.

DTGen has been an Authorised Service Dealer for FG Wilson Generators for over 35 years. We saw the acquisition of FG Wilson by Caterpillar in 1999, and the positive changes that this brought to the company’s manufacturing facilities and the products. We’ve seen technology change from analogue systems to digital touchscreen controllers; we’ve seen our engineers move from spanners and ratchets to laptop-based ESTs (Electronic Service Tools), and we’ve swapped our calculators for load calculation software.

We are proud to be one of FG Wilson’s largest global dealers, and hope that working with a UK-based manufacturer will continue to serve us well post-Brexit.

Although based in the West of Scotland, we serve the bulk of the UK, with 65% of our revenue coming from South of the border. We have a peerless facility in Glasgow, and we are lucky to have ready access to fertile talent from the Scottish universities. We are also supported well from the local enterprise schemes and politicians – we are situated in Jo Swinson, the current Lib Dem leader’s constituency, and she has supported us through our growth journey, regardless of our political persuasion.
