NG Bailey has secured a £2.9 m project to deliver mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations (MEP) for a new eye care centre at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank in Scotland.
The independent engineering and services provider has been appointed by the principal contractor, Kier Regional Building – Scotland, to support the development of the centre.
This project is the first phase in a broader expansion plan for the hospital to increase services for ‘in demand’ specialities, and particularly ophthalmology, orthopaedic, diagnostic, and general surgery services.
NHS Golden Jubilee’s Eye Centre will comprise six theatres and an integrated outpatient department. Work is set for completion this summer; at full capacity the centre will be able to perform 21,000 cataract procedures annually. Providing onsite support, NG Bailey will be carrying work out across a range of areas, including lighting, power, security alarm systems, domestic hot and cold water, and ventilation and heating. One of NG Bailey’s apprentices has also been brought onto the project team.
Chris Catterick, Operations director at NG Bailey said: “As this is an operational hospital, our main priority is ensuring that our work causes as little disruption as possible to the day-to-day activities and maintaining the utmost level of health and safety at all times to ensure the wellbeing of patients on site.”
