The Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth in St John’s Wood, London, is currently undergoing renovation and extension by Galliford Try.
A structurally glazed three-storey link and ground floor reception connects the existing Brampton House to the main hospital. The remaining new elevations feature traditional lintels, sills and cornice detailing which, along with the roof tiles and cast iron guttering, have been selected to match the hospital’s existing elevations.
The extended hospital will feature 28 outpatient consulting rooms, treatment facilities, an endoscopy suite and an NHS Primary Care service. The building under renovation was built as a convent in 1901 and founded by the Sisters of Mercy, an Order of nuns who worked with Florence Nightingale in the Crimean War.
