Aura Corporation’s Actulite polarised daylight lighting has been specified for use in four operating theatres and two patient wards at Barnsley Hospital as part of an upgrade of the facilities.
The lighting was selected as a long-lasting, energy-saving, high quality solution which could be installed into existing light fittings via retro conversion kits with minimal disruption and would also cut maintenance costs.
Frank Cicero, hospital projects manager, Barnsley Hospital said: “There are strict colour rendering guidelines for lighting in theatres. The Actulite polarised daylight lighting was first installed into one operating theatre to gauge theatre staff’s reaction. Following positive feedback, a specification was put together for the upgrade of three further operating theatres and lighting refurbishment in two wards.
“We were extremely impressed with the SuperLife product, which offers a guarantee of 80,000 hours on both ballast and tube,” added Frank Cicero. “Not only has this reduced energy output, but it will also greatly reduce our maintenance costs for the foreseeable future.”
Comprising patented multi-layered light polarising panels, high frequency control gear and specially manufactured triphosphor full spectrum fluorescent rubes, Actulite polarised lighting emits a quality of light Aura says is “virtually identical” to that of daylight, with low glare and excellent colour rendition. It also “eliminates the harsh yellow light associated with traditional fluorescent lighting”.
