The ongoing debate over single inpatient accommodation versus four-bed bays will be among the key conference themes at IHEEM’s Healthcare Estates 2008 event, which is being held from 14 to 15 October at the Harrogate International Centre.
The other central conference theme will be the sustainability, cleanliness and safety of healthcare facilities, a key concern for the past few years particularly, with one of the most important current focuses on the sustainability front being the drive to reduce the carbon footprint of hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The IHEEM Annual Conference will tackle these and many other key issues head on via papers and presentations from leading experts. The organisers say there is still time for those with essential information they believe would benefit their fellow professionals to “make a real contribution to the future direction of healthcare facilities” by submitting a paper. The deadline for abstract entries is 4 April 2008, giving anyone interested in speaking just under a month to put their ideas to IHEEM. For more information contact the Institute’s Louise Corfield on: 023 9282 3186 or visit: www.iheem.org.uk/events.
Visitors should ensure that, alongside attending the conference, they also take a trip around the Healthcare Estates exhibition, which has already sold over 50% of its allotted space. The exhibition will, organisers say, “offer a comprehensive marketplace of products and services for use in constructing, developing and maintaining healthcare environments”. With over 150 exhibiting companies offering thousands of different products and services, visitors should have an excellent opportunity to source the right equipment and services to develop and enhance their facility.
This year’s exhibition includes two special features – the “simulation rooms” described above, and The Sustainability Centre, now in its second year, which will offer advice and recommendations on key sustainability issues. This stand will once again be manned by leading associations and groups such as BRE, Carbon Trust etc. Reflecting the importance and relevance of these subjects, the conference programme will also feature presentations by each of these organisations.
