London’s National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery has taken delivery, in a single day, of three large MRI magnets from Siemens Healthcare’s Total Imaging Matrix family as part of the ongoing project to complete the building of the hospital’s new imaging centre.
The hospital access road required extensive adjustments to take the weight and size of the delivery. The road is built on an underground vault that has only been partially concreted, so its strength could not be determined. Siemens worked with construction partners to construct a temporary new road from sand and steel, which was then used to support the heavy industrial cranes needed to lift the magnets into the hospitals. The three magnets were manoeuvred into the imaging department in a single day.
Further Siemens equipment, including a biplane neurology system, CT scanner and another MRI scanner, is to be delivered to the new imaging department in due course.
