Healthcare design and build contractor, Darwin Group, has started work on site to deliver a new project including a 15-bed high dependency unit (HDU) and 30-bed general acute ward at Airedale Hospital in Keighley, West Yorkshire.
Built using Modern Methods of Construction, and scheduled for completion in March 2022, the accommodation will be built on a steep sloping site, and connected back to the existing hospital corridor at ground floor level. A new lower ground floor undercroft space will accommodate the plantroom for the new development.
Darwin Group’s in-house management team is working closely with Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and its estates and facilities subsidiary, AGH Solutions, to ensure minimal disruption to the hospital’s services during the construction period. Large parts of the project will be delivered using a volumetric hybrid modular system manufactured offsite utilising Modern Methods of Construction at the company’s factory.
Charles Pierce, Darwin Group’s MD, said: “We are proud to have delivered some fantastic NHS buildings, and are thrilled to add this project to our portfolio. The initial designs for the building look fantastic, and the team is looking forward to bringing the plans to life.”
