UK meal cart washing system ‘a first’

South coast commercial engineering company BF Engineering Services says it is set to help hospitals across the country combat cross-contamination by being the UK’s first supplier of machines that effectively clean meal delivery carts.

The company has teamed up with Wexiodisk, a Swedish company that manufactures trolley washers, dishwashers, cutlery sorters and tray washers, in a deal that will see BF Engineering, with the help of distributors, responsible for the supply, installation and maintenance of the washers and the rest of the Wexiodisk range UK-wide. “It is very surprising to learn that no UK hospitals currently have trolley washers for their food trolleys, which can rapidly transfer viruses all over the hospital,” said BF Engineering Services md Eddie Barlow.

The Wexiodisk trolley washer has a “unique” spin-dry system said to produce excellent drying results using the minimum of energy; water consumption is also low, leading to further savings in electricity and detergent. The washer also has a heat recovery system, enabling operation with just a cold water connection, while efficient heat/sound insulation is another key feature.

“These very efficient washers get the trolleys much cleaner than anything done by hand, reducing the risk of spreading bacterial and viral infections,” added Eddie Barlow.

BF Engineering Services can supply Wexiodisk products “off-the-shelf” for smaller projects, but offers a bespoke design service for larger schemes.
