Lightning-fast Legionella detection

UK hospitals and health facilities can now benefit from detection of Legionella “ten times faster than before”, via a rapid detection process known as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) now being offered by environmental analysis organisation ALcontrol Laboratories.

The Rotherham company says its laboratory is the only one with UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accreditation for analysing Legionella using PCR, reducing analysis time to just a few hours, with confirmation within 24 hours.

ALcontrol says the current industry standard test for Legionella is via a culture test that can take 12 days, “an unacceptable time to wait which could put individuals at risk unnecessarily.”
