Combating scalding risks

Reliance Water Controls will present its new TMV3 and TMV2 thermostatic mixing valves.

To prevent legionella bacteria growth hot water must be stored and distributed at high temperatures, but such temperatures at the outlet could cause life-threatening scald injury, so must be moderated there.

Thermostatic mixing valves blend hot and cold to provide water at a suitable heat for washing, while ensuring a safe maximum is not exceeded. Controls approved under the TMV3 scheme meet the NHS Estates 1997 Specification D08 requirement for rapid shut-off in the event of a hot or cold supply failure.

New electronic washroom controls with infra-red activation will also be shown. The no-touch technology of Reliance’s Senselec range allows hands-free operation, helping prevent cross-contamination. Flow is activated only when a presence is detected in the sensor’s field.

Senselec controls incorporate antivandal features, such as a timed cut-out, to prevent intentional or accidental activation of water flow when not needed.
