BSI role for former Vernon-Carus md

David Ford (pictured) who, prior to joining the Group, was sales & marketing director at leading healthcare product manufacturer and supplier Vernon-Carus, and before this, Cardinal Health UK managing director, has been appointed md and member of the BSI Group Executive by testing and certification organisation and Kitemark “owner” BSI Product Services.

Trained as a bio-engineer at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School and the University of London, he spent 20 years in medical devices, with organisations including Medtronic, St Jude Medical and Sorin Group. He will use his healthcare experience to help drive BSI Product Services’ bid to become a Conformity Assessment Body for the healthcare, pharmaceutical and medical device sectors in as many countries as possible

He said: “I have joined at an exciting time. The world is recognising there is a common benefit from well-defined standards. A primary responsibility will be developing our service offering to multinationals and small venture businesses within the global healthcare, pharmaceutical and medical devices industries, where gaining product approval can be a lengthy, complex process.”

BSI Product Services – Healthcare is one of the medical devices sector’s largest Conformity Assessment Bodies. David Ford is also a non-executive director of TrusTECH, a founding part of the NHS Innovation Hub network, where he sits on an expert panel on Smart Solutions for Healthcare Associated Infections.
