Pharmacy automation goes live

iSOFT, supplier of application systems for healthcare organisations and economies around the world, has announced the go-live of its i.Pharmacy solution at Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, representing the first implementation in the UK. The rollout is a strategic move in the direction of Lorenzo, iSOFT’s core product offering, and introduces the software developer’s internationally proven pharmacy application to the UK.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals has procured i.Pharmacy in order to streamline the management of medicine supply and distribution and to maintain accurate patient records. Pharmacy at the Trust has evolved from a complex arrangement of systems to a single, cohesive pharmacy management application. “i.Pharmacy is a well-integrated application that offers a good level of functionality,” said Ian Hammond, director of pharmacy at Bradford. “Links to the Patient Administration System, the facility to order via Electronic Data Interchange, and connection to the finance department’s computer system have facilitated the purchasing process as well as the distribution and dispensing of medicine. Soon, we will be sending invoices electronically, which means we will no longer have to undertake batch prints. The application is effectively enabling pharmacy at Bradford to move towards a ‘paper-light’ environment.” The solution accurately maintains inventory movements in a multi-site, multi-store environment and is scalable from large regional implementation to a single PC on a single site.
