The Process Steam Guide has been
produced by Gary Sowerby Eur.Ing
CEng MEI as a result of 38 years of
process steam plant experience.
Initially, an 80-page publication was compiled by him following a request from a large process steam site to write up a steam specification as an aide-memoire for engineering staff. This then developed into the definitive Process Steam Guide which is contained in a specially pocketed presentation folder.
Further information about the guide is available by emailing

Gary Sowerby served an engineering apprenticeship from 1955 with the Dowty Group, Cheltenham, followed by several years as a junior engineer in the Merchant Navy.
From May 1965, he worked for Spirax- Sarco, Cheltenham. He became a Member of the Institute of Energy in September 1970, and was appointed Chartered Engineer in February 1972. In March 1980, he registered the title of European Engineer – Eur.Ing.
Since taking early retirement from Spirax-Sarco in November 1988, he has set up his own consultancy company called JGS Associates, giving technical advice on process steam distribution and condensate return systems, and on associated control equipment. At the same time, resulting from various requests to give on-site steam training lectures, he has established a comprehensive list of steam training topics.
Requests to provide on-site training have come from process steam companies in the food, drinks, pharmaceutical and leather industries, as well as from important NHS hospital Trusts, and MOD and power station sites.
