Next weeks' webinar will highlight UPS systems’ critical role

A webinar being held at 12.00 pm on 12 June in association with Health Estate Journal will see Alex Emms (pictured), Technical Director for Kohler Uninterruptible Power – who has over 30 years’ experience in the UK power protection sector, discuss the topic, ‘Powering Safety: Uninterruptible Power Systems for Life Safety in Healthcare Buildings’.

Kohler Uninterruptible Power explained: “With growing restrictions on generators, the use of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems in healthcare buildings to support life safety equipment is becoming increasingly important. In the event of a power outage, a UPS system provides a reliable power source to critical building systems such as evacuation lifts and emergency lighting, plus those for smoke extraction and fire suppression, security and access, building management, alarms, and controls. In this presentation, Alex will discuss the various standards, regulations, and guidelines, related to the installation and maintenance of such UPS systems, how the type of load may affect the system, and additional considerations such as fault clearance.”

Kohler UP says engineers will learn how to determine which life safety system-related regulations and standards are applicable to their application; why a UPS may now be the preferred secondary source; factors such as load type to consider; how / why a UPS may be required to react differently to faults in these applications; what to consider when choosing the battery component of a UPS system; how to design for easy installation and maintenance; what to look for in a UPS supplier, and ‘what a successful, compliant UPS installation looks like’.

Alex Emms has 23 years' service at KUP, having initially joined the company as a Field Service Engineer, progressing to Senior Engineer, Supervisor, Service Manager, Operations Director, and now Technical Director.

Attendance at the webinar is free.
