With training budgets being tightened across the board, and employers in the health estate and facilities sector looking especially carefully at which training courses most merit their employees’ attendance, IHEEM is putting together a scheme that will see industry-offered training courses that meet its strict criteria Institute-approved for their Continual Professional Development content (CPD).
The Institute is now keen for training providers to submit details of their courses or seminars for CPD for a potential a two-year “mark of approval”. IHEEM emphasises that it sees supporting its members and other healthcare engineering and estates management professionals in developing their CPD as among its main roles; all Institute members are expected to undertake CPD annually, and to submit their details to the Institute for review. While CPD can take many forms, including reading technical journals, mentoring, and gaining practical experience, the most popular is via training, e.g. courses and seminars, a major factor behind the establishment of the new approvals scheme. IHEEM business development manager Louise Corfield said: “A mark of endorsement from IHEEM sets training courses out from the rest, and allows employers to identify which courses will be the best for their employees to attend. Employers associate IHEEM with high standards and integrity, and would be assured that their employee will receive an excellent level of training when signing off a potential training request form.” Further details on the scheme will be published in April’s HEJ.
