IHEEM’s Welsh branch held its AGM on 26 February at the offices of Welsh Health Estates in Cardiff, with the evening beginning with an informative presentation by Anthony Pitcher, senior fire safety advisor, Welsh Health Estates, on fire sprinkler systems in healthcare premises.
His address covered a number of the legislative, technical and cost issues to be taken into account when considering whether such a system is appropriate in healthcare premises. During the AGM, Graham Jones, branch chairman, and Graham Stanton, area Council representative, reported on the work of the branch and of the wider Institute during 2008, and on plans for the future. Chris Parker, IHEEM recruitment and membership manager, gave a short “head office update”. The new committee was elected, and will now continue with plans for the 2009 branch programme, which includes the 2009 Welsh Health Estates conference and exhibition on 23 and 24 April (HEJ – March 2009).
