Yorkshire contracts won

North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust has appointed Balfour Beatty ProCure21, its architect, and contractor, to deliver almost £10 million worth of ProCure21 projects.

Leeds-based Space Group and Mansell, the latter a Balfour Beatty company, will deliver the architectural and construction work for:

-The refurbishment of two wards of the mental health unit at the historic Bootham Park Hospital, first opened in 1774 (pictured). The new wards in the Grade I listed building will comprise a 14-bed female and motherand- baby unit, and a 16-bed mixed-use ward.
-Delivery of a minor works programme for the whole of the Trust’s property portfolio, including community hospitals, health centres and GP surgeries.

Jayne Brown, NHS North Yorkshire and York CEO, said: “The work on Bootham Park Hospital is part of our drive to improve quality of care by increasing patient privacy, and enhance staff working conditions. Ensuring patients’ privacy and dignity, and that men and women are not placed in shared sleeping accommodation, is fundamental to our quality of care. “We maintain nearly 300 buildings, and the remaining money will fund many smaller projects across our estate portfolio.”
