A Brandon Medical-hosted “Ultra- Efficient Lighting” CPD seminar held in Leeds recently attracted an “excellent turn-out” of IHEEM members, many of them from IHEEM’s Yorkshire and Humber branch.
The event provided ideas and solutions from an international perspective on reducing energy consumption within hospitals, with four guest speakers – from the UK’s Brandon Medical and Sagentia, Derungs of Switzerland, and Waldmann of Germany – demonstrating their expert knowledge of ultra-efficient lighting in a variety of applications. Brandon said: “Derungs and Waldmann operate in two of the world’s most environmentally friendly countries. According to a recent report, Switzerland is the world’s third most energy-efficient country, while Germany displayed the most noticeable reduction in energy consumption during 2008 after its government passed a new round of environmental laws in order to meet CO2 emissions targets.” One factor behind the two countries’ success, the seminar revealed, is the Swiss-developed “Minergie” registered quality standard for energy-efficient new and renovated buildings (www.minergie.ch/). Alongside energy-efficient design, the seminar discussed the benefits of using LED medical lighting in comparison to traditional lighting technologies.
