Value-engineered’ walling solution

British Gypsum GypWall partitions have been selected for all five phases of the Manchester Joint Hospitals PFI project, bringing the total value of the company’s products specified to over £3.5 million.

The joint scheme will bring together facilties from five of the city’s hospitals, providing hi-tech medical and research facilities across more than 150,000 m2 of floor space. Close cooperation between drywall contractor Measom DryWall and British Gypsum’s Drywall Academy drawing office and technical teams saw the production of a full value-engineered HTM 2045 specification to meet the acoustic requirements of the HTM. For optimum cost efficiency, the original BS 5234 Severe Duty GypWall ROBUST specification used in early phases was complemented by the newly upgraded GypWall CLASSIC system, which now achieves BS 5234 Heavy Duty performance with a single 15 mm layer of Gyproc SoundBloc board to each side. Around 95% of performance requirements throughout all of the phases will be achieved using high performance single boarded systems, helping reduce installation time. Up to 200 dryliners will be required to install the British Gypsum products, which will be delivered to site at a rate of 8 full 40-foot containers every week.
