Morgan Ashurst to build a new radiotherapy unit at Velindre Hospital

Cardiff construction company Morgan Ashurst is building a new £3.2 million extension at Velindre Hospital which will include ‘bunkers’ to house new radiotherapy machines.

Working for Velindre NHS Trust, Morgan Ashurst, based at Gwaelod-y-Garth in Cardiff, will construct the ‘bunkers’ which will contain radiotherapy machinery, at the hospital’s specialist cancer care centre.  The bunkers have been designed to provide radiation shielding for staff, patients and the public.  The new extension will also feature all supporting examination, consulting and office spaces.

“We’re one of the UK’s biggest providers of healthcare facilities in the UK and will be using our recent experience from working on a similar project to ensure we are able to provide a state-of-the-art facility for the hospital and local people,” says Alistair Lindsay, Morgan Ashurst area director.

Work is set to complete in May 2010.
