UK healthcare consultancy MJ Medical has been selected, along with its Lebanese partners, as lead design consultant for the consortium that will design, build and equip three new 400-bed general teaching hospitals in Baghdad, Diyala and Diwaniya in Iraq, in a US$400 million project.
As part of the multi-national team, led by an Australian contractor, ACA Alliance, MJ Medical will support Iraq’s Ministry of Health in developing the project’s overall strategic brief and goals, and then translating these into detailed designs. Nathaniel Hobbs, strategic director said: “We have a long history in helping build hospitals in Iraq. Our successful appointment was, in part, due to the recognition that we are one of a limited number of healthcare consultancies worldwide with the ability to deliver a quality design against the ambitious programme and challenging local environment.” MJ Medical has also been appointed as part of the Carillion consortium to the new 800-bed, £430 m Southmead Hospital PFI development in Bristol. Its specialist equipment planners will work with support services/construction company Carillion in all aspects of the equipment design.
