Sangamo Lighting’s upgrading of a link corridor lighting system within the Royal Edinburgh Hospital has reportedly brought client NHS Lothian an energy saving in the area of over 70% per annum, with a payback period of under 18 months.
The corridor’s lights were previously on for most of the day, every day, while the existing lamps were “highly inefficient”. After a free audit Sangamo Lighting advised replacing the existing “high energy use” T12 fittings with Sangamo 49w Forth fittings, in combination with an intelligent presence detection system which ensures the lights will only be used as required. The corridor’s electricity consumption has fallen from some 11,000 kW/hr to just 3,000 KW/hr per year, representing an annual decrease of 4.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions, while maintenance costs have fallen significantly, as the presence detection system has extended lamp life.
