IHEEM has been granted a further five-year licence to register engineers at three levels – Engineering Technician, Incorporated Engineer, and Chartered Engineer.
This follows a recent visit to the IHEEM head office in Portsmouth by an Engineering Council UK Licence Review Panel. The panel, comprising one ECUK staff member and representatives of the ECUK Assurance Committee, spent some time reviewing IHEEM’s procedures, practices and files relating to recent registrants, and was able to provide a positive report. John Long, IHEEM’s CEO, commented: “With over 800 engineers registered through the Institute this was an important piece of work to get right. The success of this process reflects well on the Institute, and especially on members of the Membership Committee who have contributed to this successful outcome. Renewal of the licence is a tangible illustration of the Institute’s commitment to the professional development of all its members. This commitment is one of the factors which are increasingly attracting aspiring modern healthcare engineers to join the Institute.” ECUK has meanwhile announced that the subscription fees for registered engineers will be unchanged for 2010. They will therefore remain: CEng – £29.00 per annum; IEng – £24.00 per annum; EngTech – £14.00 per annum. Engineers registered through IHEEM will be asked to pay this fee as part of the 2010 subscription, which will be called for by invoice in December this year. The rate of IHEEM subscription will be determined by the Institute Council at its October meeting.
