Construction apprenticeship launched

The Association of Building Engineers is launching a pilot Advanced Apprenticeship scheme developed in conjunction with Asset Skills and offered on behalf of the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).

Commencing this month, the programme has been developed to encourage and assist organisations within the construction and property sectors. The ABE says that with industry reports indicating a decline in individuals qualified to undertake the levels of work required, the programme “aims to support the training of a younger generation” in surveying, property, and maintenance. The Advanced Apprenticeship scheme, which will incorporate workbased experience, comprises an 18- month academic programme leading to a Technical Certificate and a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Surveying, Property and Maintenance. Subjects covered include: building surveying, quantity surveying, maintenance, valuation, and general practice. All participants will be able to progress onto NVQ Level 4 on successful completion of the programme and six months’ further work experience.
