Brandon Medical, the manufacturer of operating theatre equipment and AV systems, is to start production in India under an agreement with Trivitron Healthcare, India’s biggest medical technology provider.
The tie-up, with an initial US$2 million investment by the Leeds company, will enable Brandon to make shadow-less theatre lights in a new joint manufacturing facility (see artist’s impression) at Trivitron’s medical technology park in Chennai (formerly Madras). Production will be under way by the year-end at the new 30,000 ft2 factory. Brandon’s managing director Graeme Hall said: “India’s healthcare infrastructure is improving rapidly, for both the indigenous population and for health tourism. It is swiftly becoming a favourite destination to visit for surgical interventions for healthcare, and is keen to match its infrastructure and technology with Europe and the US. “We identified Trivitron as India’s best healthcare company. Its creation of a first-of-its-kind, world-class medical technology park in Chennai provided an ideal opportunity to establish our first manufacturing base outside the UK. This will be the first facility in India for the manufacture of advanced operating theatre lights.”
