The organisers of next November’s 21st IFHE (the International Federation of Hospital Engineering) Hospital Engineering Congress in Tokyo promise delegates will not only come away better informed about topics ranging from risk management to heating and ventilation, but will also have experienced and enjoyed the traditional, contemporary, and futuristic aspects of Japan.
Being held from 17-19 November 2010 at Tokyo Big Site, Ariake, the congress will be hosted by the Healthcare Engineering Association of Japan (HEAJ) in conjunction with the 35th International Healthcare Engineering Exhibition (HOSPEX 2010) which is to be held at a neighbouring venue. Yasushi Nagasawa, Dr. Eng. Dip.HFP, JIA, first vice-president of IFHE, and congress chairman, said: “The range of activities will include a stimulating scientific program, professional technical visits, a large-scale exhibition, and enjoyable social events.” The congress website will soon be online, providing detailed information on the call for papers. The main theme will be “Healthcare engineering against cultural backgrounds”, with the preliminary “sub-themes” set to include:
• “Advanced technologies”, such as robotics and solar energy.
• ICT, including PACS, IT for patient records, mobile staff stations etc.
• Risk management: including a look at disaster mitigation, earthquakes, terrorism etc.
• Hospital planning and design: including masterplanning, materials handling, “healing environments” etc.
• Clinical engineering: biomedical technology, PET and imaging technologies etc.
• Facility management: hospital consultation, training and education.
• Infection control.
• The hospital environment: airconditioning and ventilation, energy saving, catering, sterilising technologies, “green” hospital concepts.
• Codes and standards.
• Healthy cities: ecological environments, waste management, clean water supply, problems in developing countries etc.
