Development of the IHEEM 2010 seminar programme is well under way. Seminars currently “in the pipeline” include:
Sustainability within healthcare – putting carbon in context (Provisional dates Jan-Feb 2010) With new CO2 targets expected from the Copenhagen climate change summit in December, and further legislation due from DEFRA and DEC in April 2010, this seminar will examine the implications for estates and facilities personnel and explore current projects and technological developments addressing the sustainability requirements placed on healthcare premises. Carbon footprint calculation methods and ways to develop reduction strategies will be explored, with case studies demonstrating possible ways forward. Relevant to estates and facilities directors and managers, technical services managers, design consultants, and procurement leads, this seminar will provide a comprehensive sustainability update.
Management of water systems in healthcare premises (Provisional dates Mar-April 2010)
With recent news of Legionella at a UK hospital, this seminar will provide essential information and advice for all those involved in managing water systems, guiding attendees through the legislation and guidelines relating to the control and supply of water in healthcare establishments, focusing in particular on HTM-04, and offering practical advice. The development of a water safety plan, and recent developments in the control of Legionella, will also be discussed.
Premises management for primary care Trusts (Provisional dates May – June 2010)
The recent publication of the Darzi review has outlined how payments to NHS organisations will be conditional on quality of care, as well as volume, under a new commissioning for quality and innovation scheme. Quality measures will include infection rates, clinical outcomes, patient experience, and patient-reported outcomes. A healthcare facility’s physical surroundings are one of the few areas which impact on the entire patient experience. This seminar will be aimed at practice managers and those within the PCT environment responsible for premises and facilities wishing to gain a better understanding of the issues surrounding the management of their premises. It will also review Health Building Note 11-01 – “Facilities for primary and community care services”, and examine the need for resilience and emergency planning.
Risk management and governance (Provisional dates September – October 2010)
The need for robust, documented management of risk is now clear. This seminar will define risk management and a risk management system, and examine the legal requirements with reference to the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations, HTM 00, Corporate Manslaughter etc. It will also examine a simple model for a risk management system, with reference to HSG 65 as a guide, review the role of audit, and include a practical exercise to help delegates assess their current status on several key issues.
