Yorkon claims biggest off-site build

A new Bristol treatment centre handed over on time and budget to independent healthcare provider UK Specialist Hospitals (UKSH) by off-site construction specialist Yorkon is believed to be the UK’s largest complete hospital to be built off site to date.

Designed by architects TP Bennett, the Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre is a purpose-built surgical hospital providing a range of elective surgical services, which Yorkon built in only eight months, and craned into position in just three weeks. The three-storey, 4,842 m2 building, comprising 114 steel modules up to 14 m long, is designed to be highly sustainable, with services monitoring, water conservation devices, and solar shading, plus a sustainable green roof to the adjacent service building. The scheme is also the healthcare sector’s first to use, to accommodate sensitive medical equipment in its operating theatres, the new Yorkon high performance pre-installed concrete floor. Facilities include four operating theatres with recovery bays, a central sterilisation unit, minor operations room, endoscopy suite, diagnostics and X-ray, 33 inpatient beds, procedure and consulting rooms, waiting area, café, pharmacy, and physiotherapy.
