Ongoing carbon reduction initiatives, including audits of out-of-hours energy use, the establishment of a 10-strong energy champion team, and a successful Energy Week last September (HEJ – November 2009) all contributed to the Spire Tunbridge Wells Hospital’s winning of the Best Carbon Saving Award on behalf of Spire Healthcare as a whole at last month’s 2010 CIBSE Low Carbon Performance Awards, presented at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
Engineering manager at the Fordcombe facility Phil Belton not only picked up the Best Carbon Saving Programme Award, but was also named runner-up in the Champion of Carbon Saving Champions category. Recognition for carbon reduction initiatives is not new to Philip Belton. While in a former role, as technical engineer, environmental at Kent’s Medway Maritime NHS Foundation Trust, he won the award for Low Carbon Manager of the Year in the corresponding CIBSE awards for 2009, and was also part of a team at the same Trust which won CIBSE’s Best Carbon Performance Award in 2008.
