Key testing appointment

Mott MacDonald has been appointed independent tester on the new pharmacy and laboratory services centre at Altnagelvin Hospital by the Altnagelvin Hospital Health and Social Services (H&SS) Trust. The £18 million scheme is being developed under PFI and represents the most complex and significant healthcare PPP/PFI development to date within Northern Ireland.

Altnagelvin Hospital is the largest acute hospital outside the Greater Belfast area and has one of the widest range of specialties of any hospital in Northern Ireland. Development of the new pharmacy and laboratory services centre, which forms part of the wider strategic redevelopment of the hospital, includes new biochemistry, haematology, histopathology, cytopathology and microbiology laboratories, together with a new pharmacy department incorporating specialist cancer drug dispensing facilities. The new facility will allow for the provision of enhanced and high quality services in diagnostic clinical pathology and pharmacy to meet the present and emerging needs of patient care.

As independent tester Mott MacDonald’s role involves construction and contract compliance monitoring via monthly inspections and audits, witnessing of completion and commissioning tests, and certification.

Construction commenced on site in April 2005 and the new facilities will be completed in April 2007.
