The JTL/NHS Estates national training programmes – launched in 2005 and featured in Health Estate Journal (June 05 pp40-41) – are off to a winning start with three streams and 40 young people already in place.
Based in Trusts in London and Yorkshire, the new streams of engineering maintenance apprentices are the first to benefit from the launch of the NHS national training programmes, “Estates Apprenticeships”. Training provider JTL has been appointed to supply engineering work-based learning for NHS Estates sector staff including young people and adults – opening up career and training opportunities in both maintenance and medical engineering.
The schemes, which include “Estates Apprenticeships” and “Estates Upskilling”, are set to greatly benefit the Health Service, with estates engineering staff across England and Wales being given the opportunity to be trained within the nationally recognised NVQ Level 3 standards. They will also increase the level of highly trained and multi-skilled employees who will improve efficiency and productivity while benefiting from a qualified status.
