Balfour Beatty Construction is to undertake the £15.9 million conversion of an existing office building at the Wellington Hospital in London’s St John’s Wood, said to be Europe’s largest private hospital, into a fivestorey “state-of-the-art” medical facility.
Due for completion by mid-next year, it will incorporate four new operating theatres, two MRI scanners, CT and PET CT scanners, and full X-ray and ultrasound diagnostic facilities, plus a major cancer unit with 10-bedded chemotherapy ward, and 50 consulting rooms. Almost a third the size of the existing hospital, it will reportedly be the UK private healthcare sector’s largest outpatient centre. Although the hospital has an international reputation for its intracranial cancer surgery, cardiac services, and neuro rehabilitation, until now cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy have had to be treated elsewhere in HCA group hospitals.
