Post-mortem rooms within the mortuary at the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham incorporate Brandon Medical medical lighting and audiovisual equipment.
The post-mortem rooms feature Brandon Medical’s Symposia medical audio-visual system, mounted on a tandem ceiling structure. On one arm a high quality camera system captures images and videos from the post-mortem table, which are then viewable by the mortician on a medically approved monitor, and externally within seminar and viewing rooms. The secondary arm incorporates Brandon Medical’s Astralite HD-LED theatre lighting, which the company claims gives the market’s best colour rendition. For instance, as decaying tissue cells become difficult to differentiate, the HD-LED will help distinguish between similar-coloured tissues. Pan/tilt/zoom room cameras in each room can be controlled and operated by external users for medical teaching and training within the hospital, while live video of mortuary procedures can be watched from offices or seminar rooms by trainee and junior morticians. Each room incorporates an intercom system, allowing live two-way communication between mortician and external viewing rooms.
