Airedale Hospital in Keighley has selected Brandon Medical’s Quasar HD-LED operating theatre lights as part of a refurbishment of a number of its operating theatres. Theatre manager Ken Charles says the product is “by far the best operating theatre light we have ever used”.
He added: “The light’s overall performance, manoeuvrability, and design, make Quasar a step ahead of the rest.” Airedale Hospital, which serves around 200,000 people living in a 700 square mile area, selected the Qasar HD-LED after competitive trials. Brandon Medical describes HD-LED as “a brand new technology with vastly superior performance compared with standard definition LED”. “Three distinctive benefits” that reportedly differentiate it are full spectrum colour rendition, “making it the only surgical light with near perfect colour rendition across the full visible spectrum”, “Fat Beam Illumination”, for high light intensity across the entire illuminated area and adjustable beam size, and (reportedly) the highest R9 (visible red) colour rendition of any such product, providing “optimum visualisation” of red tissues. HD-LED lights also reportedly use “up to 70% less energy than conventional medical lighting”. To date Qasar HD-LED lights have been fitted into four general theatres at the hospital, while later this year Brandon Galaxy Ultra HD-LED lights will be installed in four ultra-clean theatres during their refurbishment.
