Health Estate Journal was amongst the first to visit the world’s first mobile endoscopy unit, at its unveiling at the Healthcare Estates event in Harrogate in November 2005.
The unit employs double slide-out technology to create more than 250 m2 of instantly available clinical space. It can move from one hospital site to another – on a daily basis if required – unfolding on arrival to provide a theatre environment which enables the clinical team to carry out a list of endoscopy, cystoscopy, gastroscopy and other investigations.
“Mobile services of this kind are helping health providers to deliver care closer to their patient populations and make productive use of available land on the estate,” said Mary Smallbone, Vanguard’s director of sales.
“This combined unit can be used to reconfigure endoscopy services in an area or in some cases introduce a service where previously it has not been costeffective to provide one.”
