An IHEEM seminar providing guidance on electrical installation for healthcare premises being held in Leeds next month and in London in early March will consider, among other topics, current regulations and legislation, and the first amendment to BS 7671: 2008 (17th edition Wiring Regulations), due to come into force on 1 January, 2012.
Being held at Leeds’ Thackray Museum on 23 February, 2011, and at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining in London on 1 March, the seminar will examine how to minimise electrical safety risks to both system operators and contractors, and patients and staff. The part of the event devoted to the amendment to the 17th edition Wiring Regulations will focus on the “significant new requirements” for electrical services in “medical locations”, and for electrical testing and surge arrestors. Referencing HTM 06, MEIGaN, and IEC 60364, the speakers will give practical examples of how to manage the various risks “while minimisng capital and revenue costs”. Richard Knight, CEng, MCIBSE, MIHEEM, Authorising Engineer, will introduce current regulations and legislation, while an overview of electrical resilience will be provided by Geoff Halliday, of Power Electrics. Afternoon sessions will include “a guide to the use of integrated systems” within healthcare premises by Lee Jones, marketing manager, Schneider Electric, and a presentation on “generating income from PVs” by Matt Dickinson, of BRE. An open discussion forum will then provide ample opportunity for any questions.
