Turnkey offering a claimed sector ‘first’

Manufacturer and supplier of LED theatre lights, HD camera systems, video integration technologies, and ceiling support units, Trumpf Medical Systems UK, and “logistical services” company Canute International Medical Services (CIMS), one of whose specialities is providing mobile medical units for diagnostic imaging, have entered into a partnership that will see the two companies offer fully fitted out modular operating theatres and other medical/clinical buildings incorporating the latest technology and equipment, on a fully project-managed, “turnkey” basis.

Oliver Law, Trumpf Medical Systems UK managing director, explains the background, and the new service’s anticipated customer benefits.

Turnkey, off-site, modular construction is a building concept that is already proven. It is the basis, for example, of many new-build hotels. Rooms are constructed off site as pods, complete with bathrooms, wall furniture, and carpets, and are then delivered to site and dropped into pre-fabricated frameworks, ready for services to be connected. These constructions really do stand the test of time too, lasting for 60 years or more. They are cost-effective and timesaving, highly energy-efficient, and require very little maintenance. A new working partnership between Trumpf Medical UK and Canute International Medical Services (CIMS) is set to extend the benefits of such technology in the healthcare sector, and, following a long consultation with constructors, planners, and estate managers, we at Trumpf, and our counterparts at Canute, confidently predict we are onto “a real winner”. Our new service offering combines the merits of modular construction, both as a short and longer-term solution, with expert design, specification, and project management. It is a complete, dedicated package that is being promoted as a much-needed alternative in a market that is relatively new to this innovative approach. For estates managers subject to the effects of ever-tightening budgets, shorter time lines, and increasing pressure from both patients and clinicians, as well as the Government, to deliver modern services, we expect the new initiative to prove a real boon. The aim of our new partnership is to provide a highly flexible building process that is both transparent and costeffective. While there will naturally be some degree of standardisation with the modular systems provided, the final outcome will, in each project, be able to be tailored to suit the customer’s particular needs. The new service also requires comparatively little lead time, with the on-site “fine-tuning” able to be completed in a matter of days.

A developing concept
