Partnering ethos secures mental health bid

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Trust has selected The Investors in the Community Programme, managed by Mill Group, as preferred bidder for Northampton’s £34 million PFI mental health facility project.

Investors in the Community has selected project partners who share in its commitment to long-term, close collaboration and have a strong partnering ethos. Balfour Beatty Construction will build the facility, Kier Support Services will provide the facilities management services and the architectural team is Watkins Gray International. All have outstanding experience in the healthcare sector and considerable understanding of the PFI process.

The proposed design places the facility on the site of the current Pendered Centre on Berrywood Road in Northampton and focuses on the needs of both staff and patients. The main aim is to provide an environment within which patients will feel safe and comfortable, while also allowing for their privacy and dignity. The result will be a modern, therapeutic environment in which patients with mental health issues can be helped to recover as quickly as possible or be cared for long-term in a non-threatening and comfortable environment. However, a key consideration is also to ensure effective internal departmental relationships, to integrate the staff and to improve their working lives. Another key feature is the detailed landscape features, whereby internal courtyards and perimeter landscaping have been embedded into the masterplan.
