P21 future direction awaited

The Department of Health has issued a statement confirming that following the recent appointment of Rob Smith as director of estates and facilities management, ProCure21 transferred from its interim position in the Commercial Directorate to the DH Estates and Facilities Management division, from January 2006. The final decision about its fit with current estates developments will be made by the Estates Division in due course.

The recent past has involved detailed discussions of the ProCure21 report, its recommendations and the future, by the ProCure21 Review Project Board. These discussions have culminated in the report being forwarded to Richard Douglas, director of finance and member of the DH Board, for further consideration. The report will be published in due course, with the ultimate decision made by Rob Smith with DH Board approval.

Peter Woolliscroft, who led the ProCure21 initiative from the start, creating the team in 2001 and then taking the programme through its successful pilot into the national roll out which is now worth over £2 billion, has decided that he has taken the programme as far as he can and wishes to use this opportunity to take up new challenges elsewhere.

A spokesperson at the Department of Health commented: “We recognise that there has been uncertainty felt by staff, suppliers and customers of ProCure21 as to the future of ProCure21, but the ProCure21 team continues to progress and support the initiative and all current schemes will remain unaffected and fully supported.”
