Ceiling arm system meets user needs

Brandon Medical has announced the launch of a new ceiling arm system for its Galaxy Ultra operating theatre lights. This new system has been built around the same criteria to which the Galaxy Ultra lamp heads were originally designed, by considering what surgeons and theatre staff actually want from an operating theatre light.

The ceiling arm system combines upgraded bearings with robust beams to provide an excellent featherweight movement and positioning system. There are six different axes through which the arm can rotate and it is fitted with a highly effective new braking system.

The smooth lines of the new structure make it very easy to clean, with no hidden or hard-to-reach problem spots where dust can gather. Galaxy Ultra is also the only brand of operating theatre light which has anti-microbial properties. Polygiene is moulded directly into the lamp head to destroy harmful bacteria, viruses and yeasts upon contact.

Cameras and monitors were considered from the very start of the design process. A new range of flat-screen monitors have been released especially for this new structure which can be mounted on an additional arm as a satellite around the main theatre lights.

A new camera system has also been designed. These cameras can rotate through a full 360° to give complete freedom of movement around the operating table. The cameras used are from the Sony Professional range and are specially adapted for medical applications to produce ultra-high quality images.
