BeaconMedæs and Addmaster have combined their expertise to launch what they say is the UK’s first medical gas terminal unit to offer inherent antimicrobial protection as standard.
The latest version of the company’s Gem 10 terminal unit incorporates silver ion-based Biomaster antimicrobial additive integrated during manufacture throughout all user-accessible parts, including the surface-mounted back box and cover plate. The additive, the active ingredients of which prevent cell division and stop both cells producing energy, and DNA replication, has been independently shown in tests to ensure a 99% reduction in MRSA and E. coli bacteria. The new terminal also features a re-designed, “flush” gas identification ring, “eliminating the dust trap often associated with other designs”, and is designed for up to 10,000 probe insertions. BeaconMedaes says that, like the existing Gem 10 terminal unit, launched in 1989, it offers “exceptionally low pressure drop performance”, high precision gas indexing, bed jacking engineered weak point, and a “unique” check valve, for maximum reliability.
