The new 667-space multi-storey car park recently opened at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, and designed, built, and financed by specialist parking operator, VINCI Park UK, sources 10% of its energy from renewable sources.
The car park, to be operated by VINCI Park under a 30-year PFI contract for East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, incorporates “a “living green wall”, recharging points for electric vehicles, a secure area for parking bicycles, and a fully landscaped plaza incorporating a sculpture made from an oak tree and designed by a local artist. It also features a “silent” wind turbine, and photovoltaic solar panels, which together generate renewable electricity for the car park, a first for VINCI Park UK. Having taken one year to construct, the car park boosts, by 34 %, the total number of parking spaces – to 1,650. “Blue badge” spaces have nearly tripled site-wide, while the facility provides wheelchair access, help points, and a covered walkway leading directly to the hospital entrance.
