Prestigious laboratory project won

The Manchester office of consultant to the built, natural and social environment, White Young Green (WYG), has been appointed on a new £24 million medical project underway in Liverpool.

WYG was awarded the commission by Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) to act as the client's mechanical and electrical representative on a project which will see the construction of new laboratory facilities at the international postgraduate centre of excellence, which is devoted to research, education, training and consultancy and which caters for 500 students from 70 countries.

WYG's role will include receiving and commenting on contractors' proposals at the tendering stage with an ongoing monitoring role throughout construction to ensure that the design and construction processes are met and adhered to. WYG associate director Seamus Cooke commented: "The scheme design has presented a number of challenges including the integration of high dependency systems that need to be operational 24/7 and which require duty and standby provision to maintain constant internal environments."
