Pall Medical is to hold a free-to-attend “educational workshop” on 1 December, 2011 at Jesmond Dene House, Newcastle, focussing on water quality in hospitals, with particular emphasis on waterborne nosocomial infections within healthcare premises, and the provision of safe water for high risk patients.
The company says hospitals are currently treating a higher proportion of immuno-compromised or immuno-suppressed patients, including those receiving solid organ or bone marrow transplants, and chemotherapy, as well as burn patients or those who are HIV positive. For all such individuals waterborne nosocomial infections are, Pall says, “increasingly recognised”.
Topics at the workshop will include:
• Current guidelines.
• Microorganisms found in hospital water systems, e.g. Pseudomonas spp; Legionella spp, and Cryptosporidium spp.
• Clinical relevance in haematology, oncology, and ICU.
• Prophylactic prevention, and outbreak control measures.
As spaces are limited, potential attendees should contact Pall Medical ( T: 023 9230 3600; e-mail: elise_maynard@europe.pall.com ) as soon as possible. Attendance and refreshments are both free-of- charge.
