SmartGlass International, the global manufacturer of electronically switchable glass, has joined IHEEM as a Company Affiliate Member.
Via its dedicated medical subsidiary, SmartGlass supplies such switchable glazing to the healthcare sector, offering what it describes as “patient safety, privacy, and dignity – at the flick of a switch”. Two of its key products are LC SmartGlass – internal partition screens, windows, security screens, and doors, for “privacy on demand”, and SPD SmartGlass – solar control windows and rooflights “offering many environmental benefits”. Orla Keogh, marketing and sales administrator at the company’s Dublin head office, said: “Through continued studies it has been proven that sheer, easily cleaned surfaces are essential in hospitals in order to reduce the risks associated with the spread of ‘superbugs’ such as C. difficile and MRSA. By simultaneously offering patients dignity and privacy, and allowing hospital staff to safely and efficiently review patient wellbeing, the SmartGlass medical solution offers a sheer, easily cleaned surface to replace traditional blind systems, which are difficult to clean, and high risk, in terms of harbouring dirt and bacteria.” SmartGlass Medical works closely with the NHS, most recently on the new Sunderland Royal Hospital ICCU, which opened on 11 April. More information on SmartGlass can be found within its entry on the Company Affiliate Directory on the IHEEM website.
