Scroll compressors arrive soon

MED'S will be introducing scroll medical air systems to the UK this summer. Accounting for almost two out of every three new medical air system installations in the United States, scroll compressors have been used to supply medical air to healthcare facilities for almost a decade.

A typical oil-lubricated compressor system for medical air will include an airoil separator (with oil injected rotary screw compressors), duplex coalescing oil filters with automatic drain valves, and an oil-water separator for vessel drain and filter discharges. Scroll compressors obviate this by not mixing oil with the air in the first place. With scroll compressors oil is no longer a necessary evil.

Also, the scroll technology employed requires significantly less maintenance than oil-lubricated machines, not to mention no oil top-ups or changes. The compressors are designed to operate for 10,000 running hours without maintenance to the air end. Only a single tip seal change is required, and the compressor is ready for another 10,000 hours.
