Healthcare technology specialist, The Wandsworth Group, has been awarded a contract worth over £1 million to design, manufacture, and install the state-of-the art nurse call system for the £430 million Bristol Southmead Hospital PFI scheme.
The Wandsworth Ethernet-based IPiN nurse call system was offered as part of the tender process for the high profile 790-bed project, and Wandsworth was subsequently awarded the supply contract.
Gary Stevens, Wandsworth’s managing director, commented: “Bristol Southmead is an extremely high profile development, and has been conceived as a ‘super hospital’, providing the very highest standards of care. The Wandsworth IPiN system is a fully addressable IP system which can not only assist in minimising nurse responses times, but can also help to deliver better resource management and operational efficiency thanks to its ability to provide real-time data. It will also help to future-proof the hospital, as it can be integrated with other IP technologies, and offers the ability to provide remote monitoring and fault diagnosis via a secure online access.”
The IPiN system will be installed in the ‘smart’ wall units of all 790 beds at Bristol Southmead, as well as being fitted across all the hospital’s treatment areas, clinical areas, acute areas, and 24 operating theatres.
The contract’s awarding follows the recent installation of Wandsworth’s IPiN nurse call system at the 60-bed South Bristol Hospital, part of the Hengrove Park regeneration scheme in the city, where Wandsworth designed and supplied a system which is now installed and complete.
Wandsworth has now started work at Bristol Southmead, and expects to complete the nurse call system’s installation by April 2013.
