IHEEM is to hold two seminars on ‘Sustainability’ in April and May this year. Speakers already confirmed for the ‘Plan Today for A Sustainable Tomorrow’ events, taking place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel on 19 April, and on 16 May at a London venue to be confirmed, include Phil Nedin, an Institute Past President, Chartered Engineer, and director of Arup’s global healthcare business.
He is also member of the International Federation of Hospital Engineering Digest advisory panel, and of the UK Department of Health Design Review Panel.
Also due to speak is Dr David Pencheon – a director, and one of the founders, of the NHS Sustainable Development Unit, who received an OBE in the 2012 New Year’s Honours List for his services to public health, and particularly for his current work on improving sustainability in the NHS (HEJ – March 2012), while Philips Lighting sustainability manager, Katy Bryan, and national sales manager, Healthcare Lighting, Richard Tandy, will present jointly.
Others due to speak at this highly topical seminar include Larissa Lockwood, who is public sector manager at The Carbon Trust, and a senior representative from Cambridge University’s Design & Delivery of Robust Hospital Environments in a Changing Climate (DeDeRHECC) team (HEJ – June 2010).
IHEEM events / education manager, Siân Barker, said: “These seminars, which will be chaired by Trevor Payne, director of estates and facilities, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HEJ – January 2012), who will also give a presentation, will cover the key sustainability issues affecting the healthcare estate and its supply chain, and endeavour to provide valuable solutions and advice to help NHS and other large healthcare providers reduce their carbon footprint, operate more sustainably, and cut their energy bills.”
Two new speakers confirmed for IHEEM Water Quality Seminars – ‘The Invisible Threat’.
Two new speakers have also been confirmed for the IHEEM ‘Water Quality’ seminars (HEJ – February 2010) on 17 July in Leeds and 19 July in London
Dr Nick Hill, technical director at the Water Hygiene Centre, and chairman of the newly established IHEEM Water Technical Platform, and Clare Reynolds, laboratory manager (Water Testing), Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, will join David Harper, a leading expert on Legionella, waterborne contamination prevention, and emergency response, as speakers.
The water quality seminars will cover topics including Legionella and waterborne diseases, water hygiene issues, ‘competing and antagonistic risks’ such as scalding and environmental impact, and a variety of other water management and impact reduction issues.
