IHEEM awards ‘re-launched’

IHEEM has taken the strategic decision to ‘review and revitalise’ its annual awards scheme to give the whole of the healthcare supply chain – rather than just the Institute’s members – the opportunity to participate.

As well as making most of the existing awards open to all, IHEEM is also looking to introduce some new and exciting categories (these will be announced in June’s HEJ). From mid-May, IHEEM’s website will feature easy-to-complete, downloadable online application/nomination forms for the various awards. The Awards will be presented at a formal dinner on the first night of the annual IHEEM Healthcare Estates conference and exhibition, which runs from 9-10 October this year in Manchester (see also above). Brief details of the existing awards are:

• The IHEEM Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual who has given long service to the healthcare sector, and has made a significant contribution to their specialist field.
• The John Bolton Memorial Award for Excellence in the Field of Education and Training is given to an individual who has ‘excelled through their own personal development’, or who has ‘contributed greatly to the education and training of others’.
• The Lucas Scholarship Award for Significant Contribution to Branch and National Activities is awarded to an individual who has been seen to take an active role in the Institute – for instance volunteering to sit on branch and national committees or working groups, submitting an article to HEJ, or speaking at, or chairing, an IHEEM event.
•  The Northcroft Silver Medal for Outstanding Contribution to the Advancement of Healthcare Engineering is presented to the author of the technical paper published in HEJ considered to have contributed most to the advancement of healthcare engineering.
• The William E Schall Award for Excellence in Medical Technologies goes to a graduate who has made the best contribution while studying the Medical Technologies Foundation Degree Course.
